Where does the Christmas goat originate from? The tradition of the Christmas goat is mostly known in Scandinavia, but exactly when and how it became a Christmas tradition is not known for sure. One tale is that it is a relic of an old Viking custom at the winter solstice, where a goat was sacrificed, as a symbol of the thunder god Thor's goats, to have a good year.
